Urbandale Epoxy Flooring is an epoxy flooring company based in Urbandale, IA, with 20+ years of grinding, repairing and coating concrete floors across central Iowa. We work in two-car garages and finished basements, in office-front, warehouse-back flex bays, in restaurant kitchens and in warehouses, and the floors look very different from one job to the next.
What stays the same is the order of the work. We believe most coated floors that fail were lost before the first coat went down, so we spend our effort on the slab first and the color second.
Our Approach

Every slab we coat is opened mechanically, with a diamond grinder or a shot blaster, so the coating has a real profile to bond to, never by acid etching, and the dust is caught at the machine by vacuum rather than washed toward a floor drain or a storm inlet. Before a price is final, a moisture test is written into the scope, in a garage as much as in a basement, because a newer house is no proof of a drier slab. Cracks, spalls and old coatings are mapped first, and if a slab ought to be repaired or replaced before anyone coats it, we say so.
Our proposals are written so you can hold us to them. Each one names the product line, the number of coats and the finished thickness, and it explains what the coating warranty excludes, with moisture at the top of that list. Cure schedules follow the slab’s temperature and dew point rather than the calendar, which means an unheated garage in a central Iowa winter sometimes waits for spring. Garage systems are picked for the brine and rock salt that come in on tires all winter, and slip resistance is specified by the broadcast and topcoat we use, not promised as a slogan.
We are also clear about what a floor coating is not. It is not waterproofing, so basement floors are checked for past water first and the sump pit and floor drain are left open and working. It is not radon work either, since radon testing and mitigation in Iowa take a state credential, and we never sell it as such.
Low-odor products are available for attached garages and basements as a comfort choice, not as a legal requirement. For businesses, we phase work around tenants and opening hours, with night and weekend windows when a space cannot close, and kitchen floors are planned to the 2017 FDA Food Code that Iowa adopts.
